Attracting birds to your garden is not only a delightful experience, but birds also help control pests and pollinate plants. A DIY bird feeder is an easy project that you can make with materials you already have at home.

Materials Needed:

  • A plastic bottle or milk carton
  • Scissors or a utility knife
  • String or wire
  • Birdseed

Steps:

  1. Choose a Container: Find a plastic bottle or an empty milk carton to use as the base for your bird feeder. Make sure it’s clean and dry before starting.
  2. Cut Feeding Holes: Using scissors or a utility knife, cut a few small holes around the lower part of the container. These will serve as the openings where birds can access the seed. Make sure the holes are just big enough for the birds to reach in but not so large that the seed falls out.
  3. Create Perches: Insert small wooden sticks or dowels below the feeding holes to create perches for the birds to stand on while they eat.
  4. Attach the String: Poke a small hole in the top of the container and thread a string or wire through it. This will allow you to hang the bird feeder from a tree branch or hook.
  5. Fill with Birdseed: Pour birdseed into the container, close the top, and hang the feeder in your garden. Place it in a location where you can easily watch the birds enjoy their meal.

With minimal effort, you’ve created a bird feeder that will attract wildlife and help support your garden ecosystem.
